Proverbs 6 – Sow Discord
There are six things the Lord hates—
no, seven things he detests:
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that kill the innocent,
a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.
– Proverbs 6:16-19
Abby: That's discord...not distemper.
Nim: Are you sure?
Abby: Absotively.
Nim: THEN WHY DID THE VET GIVE ME A SHOT?!
Proverbs 6 – A False Witness Who Pours Out Lies
According to Proverbs 6:19, the sixth thing the Lord hates is “a false witness who pours out lies.” That means speaking untruths about others.
Con: Have you ever heard her being a gossip with your own ears?
Nim: No.
Con: Then you're the gossip.
Nim: I hear that Abby is cool and smart and so good-looking!
Con: Nice try.
Proverbs 6 – Feet That Rush To Evil
The fifth thing God hates are feet that are quick to rush to evil, because they betray a heart that secretly dwells in dark places.
Con: What are you doing?
Nim: The fifth thing the Lord hates are feet that are quick to rush to evil.
Con: And?
Nim: And I'm practicing how to stop them, just in case it ever comes up.
Proverbs 6 – Wicked Schemes
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 6:16-19 that the fourth thing God hates is “a heart that devises wicked schemes.”
Con: Pardon me?
Nim: The 4th thing God hates are wicked schemes and I'm not sure what those are.
Con: Well, a wicked scheme would be an unrighteous act that is extremely offensive both morally and spiritually.
Nim: Would acting really cute for my master JUST to get an extra cookie be a wicked scheme?
Con: No.
Nim: EXCELLENT!
Proverbs 6 – Hands That Shed Innocent Blood
Proverbs 6 tells us that the third thing God detests are hands that shed innocent blood. Murder is an abomination to God.
Con: Why?
Nim: Because Proverbs 6:17 says that among the things God hates are hands that shed innocent blood.
Nim: Cats kill mice. Ergo, God hates cats!
Con: You do know that cats don't have hands, don't you?
Nim: Filthy cats!
Proverbs 6:17 – God Hates A Lying Tongue
“There are six things the Lord hates – no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.” – Proverbs 6:16-19
Con: What are you doing?
Nim: Keeping my tongue moving! Yesterday, I worried about haughty eyes. The next thing God hates is a lying tongue. So I'm not letting my tongue lie still for even a moment.
Nim: BLADALADALADALADA!
Con: It's lying, as in "tell a lie," not like "lie still."
Nim: Oh, thang gudneth! My tung ith exthauthted.
Proverbs 1:7 – Godly Wisdom
Nim learns that Proverbs 1:7 tells us where true knowledge comes from. #fearofgod #lovinggod #bible #proverbs
Nim: People sometimes tell me I'm wise.
Nim: Why, just yesterday, Con told me I was a real "wise guy."
Abby: That's not the same kind of wisdom, Nim.
Nim: Well, I should hope not.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of true knowledge - Proverbs 1:7
Proverbs 16:24 – Kind Words
When you speak to those you love, are your words kind? Everyone you know is going through something difficult today, so a kind word can show a lot of love.
Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
Proverbs 16:24
Nim: Yep, for about a week.
Con: Well, I can tell it's working.
Nim: REALLY??!!! I must look fantastic!!! I knew the diet was working, but I had no idea you'd see such a big difference in so short a time. Look at you, you can't keep your eyes off me! I must really be fabulous!
Con: A little compliment goes a long way with Nim.
Nim: Who's got a camera? Someone needs to get a picture of me...quick!
A small compliment to someone you love can go a long way.
Proverbs 13:17 – Worldly Success
God wants us to succeed in everything we do, but we should never put the pursuit of money ahead of our relationship with God. Proverbs 13:17 speaks to this:
Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.
Proverbs 13:17
Nim: Abby pointed out something bad I've been doing. I was trying to get rich quick so I could have power over my own destiny, instead of trusting God to care for me.
Con: Cheer up, little guy. At least you see the error of your ways.
Nim: I know. But now I don't get to dominate the world!
Only a fool relies on himself over God.
